*2001* During this period I was getting into Salvador Dali's earlier work a bit, and was painting on photos, recording and recollecting my dreams, and started experimenting with subconscious / non-representative imagery. |
*2002* Fearing that the reality I saw before my eyes was, in fact, a facade, I started to imagine what I was really experiencing; and Oceanic themes were recurrant. The idea of crossing the ocean in a small ship, with the distant shoreline disappearing into a pale fog seemed like more of a reality than anything. |
*2003* I was really inspired by a Lee Bontecou exhibition I saw in Los Angeles. That chick is amazing. |
*2004* After a solo exhibition in Santa Monica, it was as if the critiques of my work were defining the very ideas my work was in pursuit of. It was like a dream analysis. Even though my work recieved very mixed reviews; it was a positive experience and launched me in a slightly different direction. |
*2005* In China, I started responding to the elements of my paintings that people found confusing. It wasn't exactly a desire to shock the public at my artshows as much as a desire to twist the public's concept of beauty. Post-modernism? |
*2006* Paintings on old Chinese posters from pre-Maoist era and experiments with color dimentionalities... . |
